SIM is an international interdenominational organization. This means that it is composed of people from various Christian denominations that are rooted in biblical truths. For information on SIM’s beliefs, see our Statement of Faith.
Yes, SIM Canada is a registered Charitable organization under the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), registration #12994-7537-RR0001.
All gifts to approved SIM projects and missionaries are used as requested by the donor, with the understanding that when the need has been met or the missionary’s status changes, the gift will then be applied where needed most at the discretion of SIM Canada, preferably to a similar project or missionary. In keeping with CRA guidelines, SIM Canada has complete direction and control over the use of tax-deductible donations received for ministries within SIM.
All SIM workers raise funds to cover overhead costs that help to cover the care they receive through SIM. This amount is a fixed rate rather than a percentage, to not penalize those serving in contexts and ministries that warrant a higher support target. There are 3 fixed rates: one for singles, one for couples, and one for families with children. SIM Canada receives 10% administration fee on funds direct to projects.
To serve with SIM Canada you must be a committed Christian with an active and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, be in agreement with SIM Canada’s Statement of Faith, and be part of a local church body.
SIM Canada has a wide variety of ministries and ministry contexts. For this reason, qualifications and training expectations can vary based on the proposed ministry context and focus. To find out more, connect with one of the members from our mobilization team.
One of the distinctives of SIM Canada is the importance we place on the care of our workers. We provide care for the whole family, including (and very importantly) the children of our workers. Our care begins in the application process, continues through the preparation stages, and carries on throughout active service. We provide wholistic care that begins with prayer and extends to the areas of administrative support, donationprocessing, budgeting, training, mentorship, health coverage/resources, crisis management/care, communications, specialized care, debriefing, etc.
You can support SIM Canada workers or projects through prayer, financial giving, or by joining them in serving! To find out more about serving with SIM Canada, fill out our enquiry form.
Our application process varies and generally takes 3-6 months. After approval, those preparing to serve long-term usually require 12-18 months to complete training and build their team of supporters. The preparation stage for short-term workers can vary greatly depending on length of service and other factors.
To serve long-term with SIM Canada, the process begins with an application. This primarily involves a written application form, references, a doctrinal assessment, medical checks, and interviews. Once approved for the next steps, training involves online and in-person components on topics like building a support team, cross-cultural competencies, and any other individualized training that has been determined by your application process. Other preparations include logistical matters, such as building prayer and financial support teams.
Those serving short-term with SIM Canada, complete a similar but shorter application process which includes a written application form, references, and a brief medical clearance. Preparation and training requirements are individualized, based on length of term and involve primarily online training.
These processes are to help in preparation of the worker for the field, ensuring they are well supported and equipped to thrive in sharing Jesus’ love where they are called.
You can serve long-term (2+ years) or short-term (1 month to 2 years) with SIM Canada. Placements of shorter durations (1 month or less) are for meeting specific needs and may require specific qualifications and training.
