SIM’s Sports Friends ministry is using creative strategies to connect with the masses of youth in Malawi. With 70% of the population under the age of 25, and many passionate about football and netball, sports has become a powerful magnet—creating the perfect environment for building deep relationships that lead to gospel opportunities. While Malawian youth are the primary focus of Sports Friends Malawi, the impact goes far beyond the playing field, reaching families and communities through intentional relationship-building.

Our vision is clear: to establish ongoing, sustainable sports ministry programs fully managed and funded by the local Malawian church. Today, we have three official partnerships and six more in discussion, representing over 1,500 local churches. We are committed to walking alongside these churches as they use sports as a tool for sharing the gospel and making disciples for Jesus Christ.

Over the past five years, we have partnered with Malawian churches and mission organizations to develop a fruitful, church-centered sports ministry movement that began in the southern region in 2012. This project supports the costs and activities of Sports Friends in Malawi, including training, leadership development, sports equipment, Bibles, ministry materials, and support.

Looking ahead, we are excited to see how God will continue to expand this movement, deepen partnerships, and transform lives through the power of sports ministry throughout Malawi.
